HAPPY WINTER & Update (finally!)

sing it david

Hello World! How terrible we have been keeping in touch with you, our apologies! How have you been?

Last summer you may have noticed

1. Fishtown was a busy busy busy place with an insane amount of visitors scooping up all our inventory at every moment
2.  I was preggo!

After a record-breaking spectacular fun summer running the shop (whilst being architects) and our inventory was totally exhausted, just when we yelled uncle, November was here, and a little boy named Hank entered our world rocketing our hearts into pure bliss.

24 hours, 7 days a week, all time goes to meeee!

Long story short (oh i forgot to mention we bought a home in between all that madness, that of course needs work) It quickly (and sadly) became obvious that we did not have time to run the shop with the attention it deserves and decided not to renew our lease in the amazing old fishtown shanty. (tear)

Fret not! We are not throwing the towel quite yet, au contraire! Peter & I have too much fun coming up with designs and products as a creative outlet, we found it impossible to completely say goodbye. So consider this a mere PAUSE. And in the meantime, this website will be the touchstone of our goings on.

But who will fill the shanty now you may be wondering? Another mother to be of course, the lovely Maggie Revel-Mielczarek and her ‘Leland Gal’ goods. http://lelandgal.com Be sure to swing by this summer and welcome her to the hood!

Also – We do plan on restocking our GREAT LAKES GEAR very soon, keep checking the site or send an email and i’ll inform you when we restock more sizes.

If you live in Traverse City, we have a lovely studio space near the old hospital, if you want ‘free shipping’ just schedule a time for pickup, I am happy to oblige! The website is an accurate reflection of our current inventory.

Have a great winter everyone!

xx

THE TREAT FARM : EMPIRE

The Treat Farm is a thrilling abandoned farmstead right smack dab next to the Empire Dunes and Lake Michigan. This is a great hike with a wonderful view. The hike (or should I say dune dance down) to Lake Michigan is invigorating, although the trudge back up is a completely different story. All I will say is on the hike UP the dunes many breaks are needed. Once down at the lake it’s like your own private beach with mesmerizing waves and wildlife. I love hiking around the area and trying to peer into the old windows on my tippy toes and imagine the peaceful times of farming right next to lake Michigan and one of the best views in the county.

GABAGOUACHE PADDLING ‘HALF THE MITT’ OF MICHIGAN

Hi everyone! Caroline here. Today I met Lynn, who (along with about eight other people!!) is paddling ‘half the mitt’. Starting at the pinky of Michigan (where Leland harbor is) they are taking a 30 year old boat, called the Gabagouache, one hundred and fifty miles around the lower peninsula! Lynn and her buddies are averaging about 50 miles a day. She said they usually stop at night and camp out, but tonight they had plans for a little night paddling. And guess what? They are not the only ones making this trek either! Through the organization, other paddlers are going across Michigan or even doing the ‘full mitt!’ !!! SAFE PADDLING!! I found another article about them online here.

FINE WINE TIMES

Tack & Jibe is holding up against Michigan’s 50 degree weather with multiple layers and Leland’s 26th Annual Wine and Food Festival next door in the harbor parking lot. People are coming in from all over Michigan. Two nice folks from Mt. Pleasant (about 140 miles away!) And this lovely customer Elizabeth, from the Detroit area also didn’t want to miss out in the action. Despite the grey grey weather and grey Lake Michigan, lots of local food, wine and music were enjoyed.

apologies, eventually we will figure out how to make the text in this picture legible. but for now, the little blurbs that you cant read say (from left to right)
- which way to tack & jibe?
- cheers!
- OMG it is so cold I can see my breath. Really!

WELL HELLO AGAIN!

Look who is back in town for the summer, Caroline! Straight from Jerseylicious! Deckhand numero uno here at Tack & Jibe to restore order – stop in and tell her welcome back!
(what this smile doesn’t convey is how freezing she is – silly girl showed up in shorts today instead of a scarf and fall jacket this mid 40 degree weather asks for – what did she think it was JUNE or something? hee hee (dont worry we pulled the heater back out!)
