GABAGOUACHE PADDLING ‘HALF THE MITT’ OF MICHIGAN

Hi everyone! Caroline here. Today I met Lynn, who (along with about eight other people!!) is paddling ‘half the mitt’. Starting at the pinky of Michigan (where Leland harbor is) they are taking a 30 year old boat, called the Gabagouache, one hundred and fifty miles around the lower peninsula! Lynn and her buddies are averaging about 50 miles a day. She said they usually stop at night and camp out, but tonight they had plans for a little night paddling. And guess what? They are not the only ones making this trek either! Through the organization, other paddlers are going across Michigan or even doing the ‘full mitt!’ !!! SAFE PADDLING!! I found another article about them online here.

(what this smile doesn’t convey is how freezing she is – silly girl showed up in shorts today instead of a scarf and fall jacket this mid 40 degree weather asks for – what did she think it was JUNE or something? hee hee (dont worry we pulled the heater back out!)

PAST & PRESENT

Here are the classic ‘before’ and ‘after’ shots of the our space! Turns out moving into a 100+ year old building, the walls aren’t going to be straight, like us dorky architects crave for. We framed the left wall for the peg board and decided on horizontal pine siding which we whitewashed and added cedar shelves to on the right side. Coincidently, the director of the Fishtown Preservation Society, Amanda Holmes showed us a picture from an unknown shanty (possibly even ours!) that also had white siding back in the day. How cool! And she emailed us the picture and we had to share.

And we also love this night shot we took not too long ago. We hope you do too!
