The Treat Farm is a thrilling abandoned farmstead right smack dab next to the Empire Dunes and Lake Michigan. This is a great hike with a wonderful view. The hike (or should I say dune dance down) to Lake Michigan is invigorating, although the trudge back up is a completely different story. All I will say is on the hike UP the dunes many breaks are needed. Once down at the lake it’s like your own private beach with mesmerizing waves and wildlife. I love hiking around the area and trying to peer into the old windows on my tippy toes and imagine the peaceful times of farming right next to lake Michigan and one of the best views in the county.
Hi everyone! Caroline here. Today I met Lynn, who (along with about eight other people!!) is paddling ‘half the mitt’. Starting at the pinky of Michigan (where Leland harbor is) they are taking a 30 year old boat, called the Gabagouache, one hundred and fifty miles around the lower peninsula! Lynn and her buddies are averaging about 50 miles a day. She said they usually stop at night and camp out, but tonight they had plans for a little night paddling. And guess what? They are not the only ones making this trek either! Through the organization, other paddlers are going across Michigan or even doing the ‘full mitt!’ !!! SAFE PADDLING!! I found another article about them online here.

Tack & Jibe is holding up against Michigan’s 50 degree weather with multiple layers and Leland’s 26th Annual Wine and Food Festival next door in the harbor parking lot. People are coming in from all over Michigan. Two nice folks from Mt. Pleasant (about 140 miles away!) And this lovely customer Elizabeth, from the Detroit area also didn’t want to miss out in the action. Despite the grey grey weather and grey Lake Michigan, lots of local food, wine and music were enjoyed.
